In many ways, Mikita Franco’s book is about the LGBTQ+ experience in contemporary Russia.
The series is based on Davies’s experiences coming out in London in the ’80s, and it captures the exhilaration of coming out only to be hit with a plague that was misunderstood and often came with a great deal of stigma.
With the exception of the most simplistically supportive or bigoted representations, there is room for much discussion and debate in determining a positive or negative LGBTQ presence.
