Henry Scott Tuke – Homoerotic Paintings

It is a great pleasure to present fourteen homoerotic paintings by a classic gay artist Henry Scott Tuke.

Son of a doctor, Tuke spent most of his life in Falmouth, Cornwall. In 1875 he enrolled at the Slade School of Art. Winning a sholarship that allowed him to study further in Italy and France. He developed an impressionistic style. Later he became a popular painter of seascapes, portraits and one of the foremost maritime artists.

By the time of his death at the age of 70 in 1929 he was not considered a collectible artist. His latterday fame rests with his idyllic paintings of adolescent boys bathing in the beautiful light and clear water of Cornish summers. Cherished by a large gay audience his work fetches high prices. For those interested in his life and work, a recent biography reveals his personal story and the wider problems faced by gay artists of his generation. Henry Scott Tuke: His Other Life by Paul Broderick (Chapel Art Publishing, 2014) £21.95.
