Jurong – dull, grey, concrete, sterile. That’s what most people who live outside of Jurong think of it. This is particularly due to its industrial past . Efforts have been underway to remake Jurong into a new urban centre, a second business district but a reputation is hard to shake off.

There are two major planning groups in Jurong, the JTC (formerly Jurong Town Corp) and the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA). While the JTC was involved in building many of the industrial plants in Jurong, it has recently branched out into being a property developer of sorts for the national interest. The URA on the other hand plans out land use throughout the whole of Singapore.
