Known as the “Pearl of the Andaman”, Phuket (poo-ket) is 24 long miles on an island of widely diverse towns. Depending on where you happen to be, it may not even feel like an island at all.
If you want the bustling party atmosphere, and popping nightlife, Patong – to the southwest – is the place to go. This place has hundreds of restaurants, go go bars, and nightclubs. The trade off is crowded beaches and crowded streets, but if you’re the social type that may not be a bad thing.
Phuket Town is the historical and cultural hub of the island. Head to Old Town for a total immersion in Thai culture, with Buddhist shrines, Chinese temples, cafes, shops, and museums – all in walkable historic row houses.
